let freedom ring

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
This is only the first two paragraphs of the Declaration, but these words describe a People; farmers, bankers, engineers, lawyers, butchers, cobblers, not too different from us, denied their basic rights. Rights of freedom, privacy, protection, justice, peace, and fair taxation, denied by an elite government far removed (physically, mentally and emotionally) from the people which it is supposed to protect. Sound familiar? It does to me. An elite government peopled by what has become a political caste, consistently removing itself and its morals, ethics and goals from the populace it has been charged with, denying all of the basic rights the People elected it to uphold to further its own power. Forgetting the oath it took, under the articles written by the People to discharge our will, and using our blood, sweat, tears and money to fill its vaults of tyranny. 
This is not a call to arms to rebel and put down those words written over two hundred years ago; this is a call to responsibility to those whom we have entrusted our care and to the People, to hold them accountable, and to remove from power those with other aims.

the one ... and done?

Let's just say, for sake of argument, that there is a one and only for everyone. This is not something I agree with, because the math doesn't work and because things like distance, etc., make it quite unlikely that this is the case; however, since I love to, nay, get my rocks off from playing devil's advocate, I want to hash this out. I mean even I, the consummate disbeliever in stuff, have thought about this very thing.

The system is BROKEN.

Something is very wrong here. Chicago just had it's first real, open Mayor election in 22 years, but that's not what makes this year historical at all. The historical fact is that the election had a 42% turnout. 42% of the eligible voters in the city of Chicago voted. That makes me angry. I mean really angry, and what doesn't help is that the Chicago Tribune reports the tournout as "underwhelming", the Daily Northwestern calls it "disappointing", the Sun-Times didn't call it anything; and all in stories that are like fourth or fifth in the order of importance on their sites. I had to search for the effing things to even find them. They're too busy covering the glad-handing and back patting these elected officials are giving each other; none of whom give two shits about who didn't vote and why.

girls are scary

The truth of the matter is, you scare the crap out of me. Mentally. Emotionally. Physically. Mentally: You have a mind that defies my explanation at times. I think I'm an intelligent human being, and have been told so by people other than my mother and my therapist, which leads me to believe it is actually true. However, there is something about your intellect, your wit, your use of the English Language and the way you take words apart, turn them inside-out and upside-down then use them again in a wholly different way that amazes and terrifies me. I love words. I love manipulating words. I love finding the tertiary meaning of a word and putting it to use in daily life, and frankly, the way you make words bend to your every will and whim knocks my socks off. I have always been challenged by the female mind, so much so in fact that it makes women a hell of a lot more interesting to be around than men. But scare me to death it does.
